We have certainly had some village days to remember, but this one may just take the cake!
While numbers were restricted by COVID, we still managed to showcase our new clubhouse to around 250 people on the day, including special guests, Lifestylers, volunteers and staff.
The clubhouse was looking fantastic with music piped throughout and judging by the happy faces, the carnival type atmosphere that was infectious. You couldn’t help but feel the excitement in the air with the
anticipation of the Win A Home competition coupled with the enormity of the occasion.
The Social Club had the BBQ’s in full swing and the smell of the sausages sizzling on the BBQ terrace proved to be popular with our guests, especially while listening to the wonderful live music of ‘Biggles’, our acoustic guitarist.
We had 12 new display homes and two established homes open for inspection on the day and buses seemed to be endlessly running people back and forward from the clubhouse to the new display homes. Project Director John Green opened and MC’d the formal part of the day, welcoming everyone, delivering a wonderful welcome to country and thanking all those involved for making the vision of the clubhouse a reality.
We were also privileged to have the Honourable Michelle Roberts MLA for Midland and Minister for Police; Road Safety officially open the clubhouse and also draw the person from the barrel who would play to try and win the home.
The lucky prize winner drawn from the barrel was Linda White, who had entered the competition because she had already bought a home and was waiting to sell her home in the suburbs to move in.
There were four prizes Linda could win – a $400k home, $50k cash, $2k cash or $1k cash. To win Linda drew from a pile of 40 envelopes, each holding a coloured card which related to one of the four prizes. Whichever colour she drew 5 times determined the prize she would win. Quite unbelievably, and against all the odds Linda managed to draw 5 yellow cards in a row which meant she won the $1k cash!
To prove the house was available to be won, we opened the next 10 envelopes and uncovered all five blue cards that would have won her the home. If only she had drawn the ones we did, she would have won the home.
It is important to mention that the draw was supervised and videoed by Richard from MJM Corporate Risk Services, who ensured that if the home was won, he had the evidence to payout on the win.
Despite not winning the home, Linda was very pleased to have walked away $1,000 richer and is looking forward to moving into the village.

We are now officially open and soon we will have the plaque to commemorate the occasion to unveil as well!
